It still has a special glamour among people in the Middle East to have male kids, but on the other side of the coin there is women’s horror and feelings of fear if they give birth to only girls; because they are threatened by getting divorced or their husbands marry another in order to achieve his dream of having a boy. Those “ignorant” ideas affected Nesma, who age 30 years, when she gave birth to six daughters. When she delivered the last twins, her husband did not admit that they are his girls, and abandoned his family for wanting to have a “boy.”

While Nesma is busy following up with the Family Court, she did not give up and decided to start her own business in trading from home, so she can provide for her family, which consists of her mother and six daughters. Nesma’s neighbors ask her to get certain goods such as casualwear, blankets and household appliances, she goes every week to Moski area to get the products from wholesalers, and sell them in installments.

Nesma did not go to school because of the harsh economic conditions of her family. But she was able to get three daughters into elementary school. Nesma joined Al Tadamun Microfinance Foundation in 2008, and aspires to own a shop where she can trade in more diverse products.
